What's Covered

Clubs, Bags & Trolleys

Cover for your golf clubs, bag, push or pull trolley, balls, shoes and other accessories against accidental damage and theft, whether they are at home, in the boot of the car or at the course.

Theft & Accidental Damage

Protection if your gear is stolen from your house, car, locker or the clubhouse, or damaged in a fall, a mishap on the course or an accident in transit, subject to the policy terms.

Third-Party Liability

Cover against legal liability if a stray ball, wayward shot or swinging club injures another person or damages their property, such as a car windscreen, a window at the clubhouse, a neighbouring plot or another player's equipment.

Personal Accident for Golfers

Benefits for accidental injury sustained while playing or practising, including medical expenses, temporary disability payments and permanent disability or death benefits paid to you or your family.

Equipment in Transit & at the Club

Your gear is covered while it is being transported to and from the course and while it is stored at the club, in the locker room or in a course vehicle, subject to the policy conditions.

Hole-in-One Expenses

Some policies reimburse the celebration costs when you hit a hole-in-one during an official round, covering the traditional bar tab that can easily run into tens of thousands of shillings.

Why Golf Insurance Matters

A Full Set of Clubs Is a Serious Investment

A fitted set of clubs, a quality bag and a trolley can easily cost KES 250,000 or more. Losing the whole set in a single break-in is a hit most golfers feel for a very long time.

You Can Be Sued for a Wayward Shot

Golf balls break windows, dent cars and injure people. If your shot hurts someone or damages their property you can be held legally liable, and defence costs on their own can be substantial.

Home Contents Cover Often Falls Short

Many home policies place a low sub-limit on sporting equipment away from the house, or exclude it altogether. Clubs stolen from a car after a round may not be treated the way you expect.

Golf Is a Physical Sport

Twisted ankles, back injuries and stray balls on the practice range are real risks. Personal accident cover protects you financially while you play, practise and travel to competitions.

The Celebration Can Be Expensive

Club tradition says the player who makes a hole-in-one buys the celebration. A busy Sunday bar tab can cost more than a year of green fees, and some policies reimburse exactly that.

Clubs and Tournaments Expect It

Course operators, event organisers and tournament entrants are often expected to carry liability cover. It protects you, the club and everyone else on the course during play.

How It Works

1

Tell Us About Your Game

We look at the value of your equipment, where you play, how often you play, how you transport your clubs and whether you compete in tournaments.

2

Choose Your Cover

Select equipment cover on its own, or add personal accident, third-party liability and hole-in-one expenses to build the package that fits your golf.

3

Cover in Force

The policy runs for a full year, protecting your gear at home, in transit and at the club, and protecting you while you play and practise.

4

Lodge a Claim

Report theft or damage immediately, obtain a police abstract for theft, keep the damaged items for inspection and send photos, receipts and repair estimates for assessment.

Types of Golf Cover

Choose the cover that matches how you play and what you carry to the course.

Equipment Cover

Protects the gear itself. Designed for golfers who mainly want their clubs, bag and trolley replaced if they are stolen or accidentally damaged anywhere they are kept.

  • Clubs, bag, trolley, balls and accessories
  • Accidental damage and theft
  • Cover at home, in transit and at the club
  • Specified items with agreed values
  • Optional extension for overseas golf travel

Personal Accident for Golfers

Protects the player. Pays benefits if you are injured while playing or practising, covering medical costs and the income you lose while you recover.

  • Accidental death and permanent disability
  • Temporary total disability benefits
  • Medical expenses for on-course injuries
  • Cover while playing, practising and travelling
  • Benefits paid to you or your family

Full Golf Package

The complete option. Equipment, personal accident and third-party liability in one policy, with hole-in-one expenses included where the insurer offers them.

  • Equipment, accident and liability combined
  • Third-party injury and property damage
  • Legal defence costs for liability claims
  • Hole-in-one celebration expenses (optional)
  • One annual premium for the whole season

Who Is This For

Club Members

Members who keep equipment in a club locker, use a buggy or trolley and play throughout the season want cover that follows the gear from home to clubhouse and back.

Regular & Weekend Players

Golfers who play every week or most weekends accumulate real risk over a year. A single annual policy is cheaper and simpler than worrying about each round.

Tournament Entrants & Competitors

Competitive golfers face higher exposure through more rounds, more travel and event rules that often expect personal liability cover before you tee it up.

Golf Resort & Course Operators

Courses, driving ranges and resorts can insure hired equipment and course assets, and protect themselves against liability arising from play on their property.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Assuming your home policy covers clubs away from home

Most home contents policies limit sporting equipment away from the house, and some exclude it entirely. Check the sub-limit before you assume your set is protected on the course or in the car.

Ignoring third-party liability

Golfers can be sued for injuries and property damage caused by stray or wayward shots. Without liability cover you pay legal costs and damages out of your own pocket, win or lose.

Not scheduling high-value clubs

Premium, fitted or vintage clubs should be individually listed with agreed values. Without scheduling, a claim may only pay a general limit that falls well short of what the club is worth.

Failing to keep proof of ownership

Keep purchase receipts, serial numbers and photos of your equipment. Theft claims are very difficult to settle when you cannot prove what you owned or what it was worth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my home insurance cover my golf clubs?

Often only partly. Many home policies cap sporting equipment away from the home at a low amount, or exclude it altogether. Golf insurance exists so your clubs are covered at their full value wherever you take them.

Am I covered if my shot injures someone or breaks a window?

With third-party liability cover, yes. It responds if you are held legally responsible for injuring a person or damaging property with a ball or a club, including legal defence costs, subject to the policy terms.

Does the policy cover damage to another player's equipment?

Third-party liability generally covers damage you cause to other people's property, which can include another player's clubs or a passing car. Damage to your own gear falls under your equipment cover instead.

What is hole-in-one cover and does every policy include it?

It reimburses the celebration costs, usually the bar tab, when you make a hole-in-one during an official round. It is a common benefit on full package policies but is not automatic, so confirm it before you buy.

Is my equipment covered while travelling to another course?

Yes, cover applies in transit to and from the course as standard on most policies. If you frequently travel abroad for golf, ask for an overseas extension so your clubs are protected outside Kenya.

How are clubs valued in a claim?

Claims are usually settled on the value you insured them for, or on market value at the time of loss, depending on the policy. Items scheduled with an agreed value settle at that value, which is why scheduling premium clubs matters.

What do I need for a theft claim?

Report the theft to the police immediately and obtain an abstract or OB number, then notify the insurer. Photos, receipts, serial numbers and details of where the equipment was kept will speed up assessment.

Am I covered while practising at the driving range?

Personal accident cover normally applies while you are playing or practising, including at the driving range and on the course. Read the activity definition to confirm what is included during travel to and from the club.

Real Talk

Your clubs live in the boot of the car. One break-in at the clubhouse parking, one careless drop down a stairwell, and a set worth a quarter of a million shillings is gone in a minute.

Then there is the other side of the game. A hooked drive through a windscreen, a ball that finds a passer-by. Golf is fun right up until somebody has to pay for it.

Play the round, we will cover the bad bounces.
