Accidental Death Benefit
A lump sum paid to the nominated beneficiaries or estate of a member who dies as a direct result of an accident, subject to the policy terms and within the period stated for claims arising from the event.
Permanent Total Disability
A lump sum payable when an accident leaves a member permanently unable to ever work again — paralysis, total loss of sight, loss of both limbs or both hands — certified by a qualified medical practitioner.
Permanent Partial Disability
A benefit paid on a defined percentage scale for permanent impairment that still allows the member to work — loss of a finger or toe, reduced hearing, scarring, or partial loss of use of a limb. Percentages are set out in the policy schedule.
Temporary Total Disability
A weekly income benefit while a member is temporarily unable to work after an accident, payable for a set number of weeks so household bills, rent and school fees keep getting paid through recovery.
Medical Expenses Extension
Optional cover towards hospitalisation, surgery, medication, dressings, x-rays and physiotherapy arising from an insured accident — either reimbursement of bills actually incurred or a fixed benefit for each day in hospital.
Funeral & Education Benefit
An optional funeral expenses grant paid on accidental death, plus an education benefit that contributes towards school or university fees for the member's dependent children up to a stated age.
Why Group Personal Accident Insurance Matters
Accidents Are Not Limited to the Workplace
WIBA deals with work injuries. GPA follows the member everywhere — on the commute, at home, on holiday and abroad — 24 hours a day, because accidents rarely check the clock.
One Accident Can End a Breadwinner
A permanent disability stops income instantly while rent, school fees and medical bills continue. A lump sum benefit keeps the family standing while the member recovers.
Group Cover Costs a Fraction of Individual Policies
Covering a whole group under one policy is far cheaper per head than each person buying their own. For 50 staff the premium works out to a few thousand shillings each per year.
It Extends Your Duty of Care
Statutory work injury cover answers what happens at work. Group personal accident answers what happens everywhere else, giving members a safety net your business or association can be proud of.
Tenders and Audits Ask for It
Employers, SACCOs and schools are frequently asked to show welfare or accident cover as a condition of tenders, donor funding, member onboarding or annual audits.
Benefits Are Paid Without a Court Case
Claims are assessed and settled directly against the policy. The family does not have to sue anyone, wait for a judgment or beg for contributions to raise medical or funeral cash.
How It Works
Declare the Group
We record the number of members, ages, occupations or member categories, and the benefit levels you want for each class of person covered.
Choose Benefits & Sum Insured
You select the accidental death sum, the permanent disability percentages, the weekly temporary benefit and any medical, funeral or education extensions.
Cover in Force
The policy runs for a year and covers the declared group 24 hours a day, worldwide, so members are protected on duty, off duty and in between.
Lodge a Claim
Report the accident immediately, obtain a police abstract where relevant, and submit medical reports, death certificates and claim forms for assessment and payment.

Who Is This For
Employers & Companies
Businesses of any size can cover their entire staff on one policy, from a ten-person workshop to a company with hundreds of employees across branches.
SACCOs, Chamas & Associations
Savings groups, unions, professional bodies and community associations can protect their members with a group register instead of individual policies.
Schools, Colleges & Universities
Institutions can include every student and, in some cases, teaching and non-teaching staff under a single student or staff personal accident plan.
Clubs, Gyms & Event Groups
Sports clubs, gyms, teams and organisers of tours, camps and tournaments can cover participants for the season or for a single defined event.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Confusing GPA with WIBA
WIBA is statutory cover for work injuries to employees. GPA is broader — it follows members 24 hours a day and covers non-employees too — but it is not a substitute for your statutory obligation. Most employers carry both.
Under-declaring the group size
Quoting a smaller headcount to save premium means people on the ground are simply not insured. In a claim the insurer settles only against the members actually declared, and the rest of the family gets nothing.
Not updating membership as people join or leave
New staff and members added during the year are not automatically covered. An endorsement updating the register keeps leavers out and joiners in, so nobody is uninsured on the day it matters.
Assuming sickness is covered
GPA responds to accidents, not illness. A heart attack, cancer or a stroke is not an accident. Health or critical illness cover handles those — do not let members assume otherwise.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is group personal accident the same as WIBA?
No. WIBA is statutory cover for work-related injuries to employees, while GPA is a voluntary group policy that follows members 24 hours a day and can also cover people who are not employees. They work best together rather than as replacements for each other.
Does the policy cover members away from work?
Yes. Cover applies 24 hours a day, worldwide, subject to the policy terms. Commuting, weekends, public holidays, domestic travel and overseas trips are included, which is the main difference from cover that only responds at the workplace.
Are sicknesses and diseases included?
No. Personal accident cover responds to accidental bodily injury only. Illness is excluded, so you should look at a health plan or critical illness policy for that exposure. This point is one of the most common misunderstandings we see.
How is the permanent partial disability benefit calculated?
It is paid on a percentage scale set out in the policy — for example a stated percentage for loss of a thumb, a different percentage for loss of hearing in one ear, and so on. The percentage is applied to the member's permanent disability sum insured.
Can we add funeral and medical benefits?
Yes. Funeral expense and medical expense benefits are optional extensions added for an additional premium. Education of dependants is also available on many wordings, and we can tailor the package to your group's needs.
How is the premium calculated?
Premium is usually quoted per member per year and depends on the number of people, their ages and occupations, and the benefit levels chosen. Office-based groups attract lower rates than manual or field-based occupations.
Can members be added mid-term?
Yes, subject to an endorsement on the policy. New joiners can be added and leavers removed, typically on a pro-rata premium basis. Always notify us when the register changes so cover matches reality.
What documents are needed to claim?
Generally the claim form, member identity details, a police abstract for road or criminal incidents, medical reports for disability claims, and a death certificate plus burial permit in fatal cases. Your broker will guide you through the exact list.
Real Talk
A breadwinner slips in the bathroom on a Sunday, a student breaks a spine in a friendly match, a chama member is hit by a matatu on the way home. None of those happened at work, and none of them come with a warning.
The bills arrive the same way either way — hospital deposits, school fees, a funeral that has to be paid for this week. Group personal accident is how a whole organisation meets that moment together instead of passing a contribution bowl.
Accidents do not wait for office hours. Cover your people 24/7.
